|Myths & Legends
Bring a mythical story to life! Your pupils will delight in exploring one of the many myths and legends that fill our children's literature. We will take them on a journey which goes beyond the realm of reading! Using a range of activities such as improvisation, script, rap, movement and mime your children will gain a unique insight into the story and characters of your chosen legend. Choose from Theseus and the Minotaur, Icarus, George & the Dragon - or suggest a myth yourself as the basis for your workshop.
|Exploring Fairy Stories
How many different ways can we tell a story? Allow your children to experiment with a range of storytelling
forms in this workshop. We have designed this to be an exciting and educational exploration of a Classic
children's Fairytale. Looking at the story, the characters and their relationships by using a range of drama-based
techniques and activities devised to fire their imaginations. Call us to decide which story to base your workshop
on.... how about Three Little Pigs, Wizard of Oz, Gingerbread Man, Hansel and Gretel, Little Mermaid,
Goldilocks, Emperor's New Clothes or Pied Piper.
Oh, yes it is! Each year Bitesize produces pantomimes which tour to schools, so why not draw on those years
of experience of bringing fun and enjoyment to children up and down the land. In this fun and challenging
workshop we explore the physical and vocal qualities of the stock characters; the Dame, Principal Boy and the
Baddie. Boo! We will look at the characteristic methods of staging, and the jokes and routines that are common
to all Pantomimes. "He's behind you" . Which panto takes your fancy! Could it be Cinderella, Sleeping Beauty,
Aladdin or Jack and the Beanstalk ?
|Play in a Day
Put your pupils in the limelight! This exciting all day project brings our team of professionals to your school to
spend a day with up to 30 children. Their aim will be to put together a full 20 minute show which the children can
then share with the rest of the school. They will learn and rehearse all the words, the songs and the dances. We
provide the props! We provide the costumes! We provide the music! You provide the kids and the space!
Choose from The Pied Piper or the Wizard of Oz.
|Movement & Dance
Put on your dancing Shoes! Let us take over where "Strictly" leaves off with a highly active workshop to get
your kids toes tapping. Whether they are complete novices or accomplished performers, this workshop will
stretch them, but not overwhelm them. All of the work can be adjusted to cater for the ability level of your
students, so allowing everyone to investigate a variety of dance styles and techniques but most of all just feel
the joy of movement.
Create a mask. This workshop will introduce your pupils to making and adorning fun masks and using them in
performance. Whether they are made out of card, paper plates or plaster of paris, your pupils will be able to
achieve astonishing results from these simple materials. The mask can be whatever they want them to be!
realistic, fantasy, tribal, animal..... It's all about exploring the many possibilities and guises of mask making and,
of course, having fun. This workshop can use a wide variety of materials including card, paper, fabric and
plaster of paris to cater for a wide range of abilities.
To be or not to be! A fun and interactive introduction to the work of the Bard! In this workshop we whisk the
children back to 1610 in a recreation of Tudor times where they become Groundlings visiting The Globe Theatre
for one of Shakespeare's plays. Together we investigate the story and the characters of one of Shakespeare's
plays, before moving on to look at the text itself. Depending on the age and ability of the pupils this could be
looking at comedy; Sword-fighting and Death (good one for the boys); or how Shakespeare left clues in the text
to tell the actors what to do and how to say his lines and so allow your pupils to be the directors and actors; or
perhaps take an in-depth look at one of the most important Scenes or most important themes of the play.
Choose which Shakespeare play to cover from Macbeth, A Midsummer Night's Dream or Romeo and Juliet.
This workshop can be adapted to cater for specific play/theme/age requirements.
|Circus Skills & Slapstick
Roll up! Roll up! Join the circus for the day! Challenge your pupils with a highly energetic and physical

their own routines. They will also be given the chance to juggle, face paint, make balloon animals, stilt walk or
have a go at diabolo ! Pupils can then share their work with their peers.
|Page to Stage
How did they think of that? When Richard Stilgoe first wrote his script for "Starlight Express" most people
thought it was unstageable, but it wasn't! When reading a play with your pupils have you ever thought, "How on
earth could they stage that ?" Well, let us show you how, and give your pupils an extra perspective of those
plays they are studying while we're at it. They will work with a professional Director, exploring a piece of text,
from either a straight play or a musical, and working through the rehearsal process. They will investigate
blocking, creating characters, understanding the text and subtext, and gain a better understanding of how a
piece of theatre is physically created; what it takes to put on a play and bring a Page of text to life on the
Author! Author! What makes a good script? What techniques do writers use? Where do you start? This workshop with a professional playwright, breaks down the notion of a complete script into its common characteristics looking at through-line, character journeys, climaxes, script layout and story structure. The pupils will work through exercises in writing and do some drama games and improvisations which will enable them to create their own scripts, which they will share with their peers.
